LPN Training Programs in New Jersey

Essex Community College is currently accepting applications for the licensed practical nurse certificate program. This part-time nursing program is ideal for those who are currently employed and want to change careers or have other commitments during the day and need a slower pace nursing program. The first step is to submit an application for enrollment to the Essex Community College and once accepted to start completing prerequisite course work.

Some of the courses which are required prior to starting the licensed practical nurse program include anatomy and physiology, psychology as well as basic English and math. If you already have college credits for these courses then you are ready to take the Nursing Entrance Exam which is mandatory for nursing students. Essex County College requires that those who apply to the licensed practical nurse program must be eighteen years old and have a High School diploma or GED. In 2007 graduates from the licensed practical nurse program at Essex Community College have achieved a NCLEX-PN pass rate of 83.87% with 26 out of 31 students successfully passing the examination.

Hudson Community College is one of several schools in the state of New Jersey that offers a practical nurse program. To graduate from this nursing program you will need to complete a total of 46 credits which include 16 general education credits and 30 nursing specific credits. Students interested in this program will be screened by an official interview and must meet several specific requirements. A High School diploma or GED is required for admission and several prerequisite courses must be completed before enrollment into the practical nurse program. Professional references and experience working as a nurse aide or patient care technician will give the applicant a better chance at securing a place in the class.

A total of four semesters are required to complete both the instructional and clinical part of the program. The program cost for in-county residents will be approximately $4,300 while for those who reside in other counties can expect to pay about $8,600. There are several scholarships available for nursing students as well as financial aid opportunities for those who need assistance. If you graduated from high school in 2004 and beyond you qualify for free tuition and fees for up to five semesters of attendance at Hudson County Community College. This free tuition program is supported by the state of New Jersey and it applies to those who will attend college on a full-time basis, being enrolled in at least 12 credits per semester. Students enrolled in a practical nurse program do qualify for the New Jersey Stars free tuition program.
